BOTOX® for cosmetic and aesthetic applications has been much talked about and has been used successfully in the field on cosmetic enhancement and facial rejuvenation.
Unlike cosmetic surgery, BOTOX® is safe and virtually non-invasive.
What is BOTOX® ?
The active ingredient in the Botox formula is a neurotoxin made by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium.
How Does Botox Remove Wrinkles?
Whenever the muscles in the face contract, the skin directly above the muscles will wrinkle in response. Over time, these wrinkles can become ingrained in the skin and can appear even when the muscle isn’t contracting. Botox weakens the muscles that it’s injected into, making those muscles be unable to contract easily. This results in the reduction or elimination of wrinkles in the skin.
What Type of Wrinkles Can Botox Treat?
Botox is used primarily in the glabellar lines, the vertical lines between the eyebrows. It is also often used to correct horizontal forehead lines, which means the whole forehead can be wrinkle-free with regular Botox treatments. Smoker’s lines around the lips or “marionette lines” at the edges of the mouth can also be corrected with precise placement of Botox. Botox can even be used for a mini brow lift in some cases.
How Long do the Effects of Botox Last?
The effects of Botox last for anywhere from 3 to 6 months. If patients have follow-up treatments on a regular schedule, they’ll often be able to wait longer between treatments.
